About Swati
Hi everyone:
Thanks for visiting my blog! I am a 42 year old single mom with a charming, inquisitive, eight year old daughter who keeps me on my toes. We have recently acquired a parakeet and we live in Chicago. I have been a single mom since 2003, post-divorce. I worked in corporate America for twenty years, but I left my job on January 23rd, 2009 to pursue a dream I’ve had for ten years: to write a book! The book shares real life stories from single moms with all sorts of backgrounds, all over the US. I am in the process of sending queries to agents and sending out my book proposal – and I am so thankful to be living my dream. All moms, dads, and those with opinions and commentary are welcome to join in our conversations!

Good luck with finalizing your proposal and getting an agent. The agent you find will be lucky to have you. Your book will be a huge success.
I love it!!! I can not wait to go to the book signing – I fully anticipate being able to step in front of the line for your autograph!!! I miss you….
Swati – sounds great – I know I’ll be buying a couple of copies for friends – will you do a couple of signed bookplates for me by post when the time comes?
Hi Jenny – It will be my sincere pleasure to sign as many books as you would like to have!!!
Hey Swati!! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been reading around your blog/book and I think it is awesome! I am submitting to agents for my book right now too. It is a crazy intense process, huh? I wish you the best of luck! I think your book is fantastic and I really hope it gets published. I would buy it for sure.
Swati! I’ve nominated you for an award of sorts. Check out my recent post at http://www.thepovertydiet.wordpress.com.

Swati,
I’m not a single mom, however, I was raised by a single mom and grandmother. That should qualify me as an honorary member of TSMC (The Single Mothers Chronicles)…right?
If not, that’s ok. I’m going to hang around and support you anyway. Congrats on your site and book. I know both will do and be amazing things, can’t wait to purchase a copy for my mom/every single mom I know.
Looking Forward>>
Coach Ward
Absolutely Coach Ward! Your insights have always moved me FORWARD and I know they will help single moms and single parents too…I can’t wait to buy your book either!

HI Swati,
Good luck on your book…I admire your strength to follow your dreams. I know your book will be a great success.
Your site is great!
Thanks Nicola! I appreciate you visiting my site – and I so appreciate the positive vibes.
Swati
Found your blog on mombloggersclub. like what i have read so far. I also too in the process of writing a book proposal about adopting as single japanese/african american woman.
Good luck.
BTW my site is http://www.newyorkcitysinglemom.com
I would love to have the financial resources to take time off to write a book. For years I have had ideas for one working titled “Roommate Stories,” another on the topic “What Got Us Through: Childhood Cancer Caregivers Speak”. I’m so glad to hear when someone else is doing it : ) Please keep me posted, and if you ever need another single mom story, feel free to contact me. I’m 43 with a 9-year-old daughter, so we are in a parallel situation by age.
Hi Erin: I sure will reach out to you (even if it has to be at 2:30am
!) Don’t lose that writing dream – it’ll happen! I carried a notebook around from 1995 to 1999 then did no writing…and started again once I decided to write the single mom’s book in late 08/early 09!
Swati

Oh, Swati! We’re nearly neighbors. I just now see you live in Chicago. I did a column awhile back after we lost the bid to host the Olympics right there in your city, detailing for President O how you go about bringing the Games to town. I’m going to put the link here ’cause I think you would enjoy it.

Hi Swati,
I love reading you blog so am passing on to you the Beautiful Blogger Award. Just visit my blog over at http://www.domesticallychallengedhousewife.blogspot.com to collect the image and instructions on how to pass it on to your fave blogs. Looking forward to more great reads!…Nic
Hi Swati..
Have you ever read the book by Janine Turner (she played “Maggie” on Northern Exposure) its called Holding her Head High. It profiles single mothers throughout history, who defied the odds and overcame adversity, abusive husbands, discrimination, and lack of economic or social power. It is fascinating. From Queens to escaped slaves, it is a page turner. I couldn’t put it down. Please let me know if you read it/planning to!
Aww Shucks Nic! You are too sweet!! I just checked it out – and we have some things in common…like not being able to squeeze ourselves into that pre-pregnancy wear anytime soon after having our little ones (5 years for me)…though somethings are gonna stay lower than they were before :-0 and others things just ain’t what they used to be (I mean my hips!)
XO – Swati
Hi Jill:
Thanks for passing on the recommendation – I will definitely pick it up (especially having just received a Borders gift card). It sounds fascinating…and I do love Janine Turner!
Swati
Hi Swati! Thanks so much for your kind words on my writing blog. I love your site. I will be keeping you in my prayers for your book deal to come through. I am going to “follow” you to keep up on your progress. Although I am not a single mom (have an awesome hubby) , those single mom’s out there are my hero’s! So here’s to you! May you have a TON of success pursuing your dream!
Hi again,
I wanted to officially tell u that I appreciate your book idea to encourage and strengthen single moms! Amen…
I also admire u pursuing ur dreams…awesome!
Hey Swati — love the site and what your intentions are for getting it started. Your resilience is inspiring! http://www.resilientlady.blogspot.com
Gotta tell ya, girl. I love your profile picture. Seriously. Curious to know how your book proposal is coming. Any news?
Hi Rhonda: You are so sweet – that was from my 42nd birthday and it was just such a lovely evening so I decided to post it because it makes me smile to think of it!
So far I have had lots of agents tell me it’s a great idea and they like it – but I need more of a platform (ie publish some articles, etc). I did have one agent tell me she really disliked it – ha! It’s been frustrating – I know publishing has taken a hit but I really believe this book has to get out there. So, I am proposing articles to publications left and right!! Any and all advice is welcome
.
XO – Swati
I stumbled upon your blog for the first time today. I was thrust in to this whole “single mom” thing earlier this year when my ex husband decided to move out of state. Dealing with his leaving and things becoming more serious with my boyfriend, has made it a rough 6 month for us all. I’ve been scouring blogs seeking advice and support from others. I will definitely stop by again soon.
D is for me – I am so glad you came by…love chatting through the ups and downs so do reach out if you need to – I remember how it was at the beginning. Sending you some good vibes!
Here is a giant hug-
Swati
I sent a note to you on facebook. Loved this site and your positive attitude. I am also really thrilled to see a smart happy single mom — really going for it. You Go Girl! How gutsy. I have thoughts of my own book after two foreign adoptions as a single mom. Really love my life (tough thought it is) most all the time. Nice to see that you do too. Best to you. You have inspired me to write more on my blog and get crackin’ on my book.

I love your expert mommy pieces on My Mommy Manual and after that last one about the book and your 8 yr old opening up, I had to learn more. My hat is OFF to you.
