Chapter Four: Holly, The Waitress
“Here you go ladies. Was everything good?”
They nodded, smiled back at me, and handed me twenty-dollar bills.
Lord, I do not know how that poor woman was listening to Vicky for so long. So much complaining!
Vicky does come in here pretty often though, and she tips well so I guess I don’t mind too much. Always the same order: half a grapefruit, four strawberries, and an entire pot of coffee.
She’s really gotten so, well, stringent and kind of unhappy, in the last six months or so. I wonder what happened to her. She was always in workout clothes before too – but she just looked more relaxed and happy. Now she never orders anything but those three things. I feel bad for her. I swear I saw an engagement ring on her one day but I was running out the door to go on vacation so I never got to ask her about it. And then the next time I saw her, no ring, no smile, nothing. I just knew something bad happened. Anybody could’ve seen it on her face. I guess that’s how life is.
Now she just seems to constantly be talking about what other people should be doing. Almost like she doesn’t want to even think about herself at all. Poor thing. I hope she has some friends she can count on.
She just looks like she’s holding herself together like a robot – like she’s not going to do anything that’s not on her to do list for the day. I’m gonna to see if I can chat with her and cheer her up a bit.
“Here’s your change, ladies. Nice to see you again Vicky – how have you been?”

I love these little slices of life you depict in your stories. When’s the EBook coming?
Thanks lady! I have had a couple small publishers express interest in the last two weeks!! I am really excited but staying calm (kinda) until something is actually final!
So by next year – something will be out!!
Swati
Wow, so cool about the publishers! Do tell more!
Hi Swati! Just read all the chapters for this story and I love it! You do so much with so few words. It’s incredible. I’m super intrigued and want to read more!!! When is the next installment?
Also, I remember being a little like Vicky before I had kids. Not the telling other people what to do part, but being completely obsessed with my appearance. I was so sure that 7 pounds was going to be the end of me. Now I’m chubbier than I’ve ever been (and I would like to lose some weight) but I”m happier. I feel like having kids made me relax in a way that I would have never achieved otherwise.
Anyway, great story! You are an amazing writer and I can’t wait to get a signed copy of your book. xoxoxoxoxo
Hi!
I must’ve hit post right when you wrote this because the next chapter just came out – and I am so glad you like it!
I have extra weight now too – it’s “grown” on me – haha!
I can’t wait to send you a signed copy of my book
Swati
